Pere Mata Cupada Nº 29 Cava Brut Nature Reserva 2021, Penedès, Catalunya, Spain

Winemaker Pere Mata uses only fruit from his organically farmed 5 hectares and only varieties traditional to the region: Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada. All of the wines made here spend at least 2 years on the lees. This 2021 was disgorged in May of 2025. Nº 29 is bright & aromatic with hints of jasmine, mint, & citrus. The dry & saline notes on the palate evolve into a bready quality that lingers on the long, round finish. Pour a glass & kick back, or kick off the festivities.

Marino Abate Grillo Sicilia DOC “Ariddu” 2024

The Marino Abate winery is located in Marsala, in the western corner of the Island of Sicily. Sustainability & respect for terroir are essential here, and so all Abate wines are certified organic. Grillo is a variety perfectly adapted to the hot & dry Sicilian climate. “Ariddu” means Grillo in the local dialect, and also means cricket in Italian, hence the critter on the label. This is a versatile, food-friendly, medium-bodied wine. It's pleasantly crisp & fruity, slightly floral, and finishes dry & savory. Perfect as an aperitif or with seafood and risotto.

Domaine de la Bregeonnette Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2024

Joseph Orieux founded this domaine in the town of Vallet in 1967 and has been organic from the start, recently gaining certification. Today, Joseph's grandson Stéphane carries on the traditions of organic farming, hand-harvesting, wild yeast fermentations, and long, sur-lie aging. Despite Bregeonnette mostly flying under the radar, many winemakers in the region consider them a reference point for organic farming & winemaking, and often seek out Stephane’s guidance. This wine is gorgeously textured with salty mineral flavors alongside notes of fresh citrus and white flowers that lead to a refreshing, energetic finish.

Pedro Parra Imaginador Cinsault 2023, Itata, Chile

Pedro Parra was born in Concepción, Chile, near Bio Bio and Itata. He holds a PhD in terroir from the Paris Center of Agriculture and is a highly respected consultant working in several countries and terroirs from Chile to Burgundy to Armenia. Imaginador is 100% Cinsault hand-harvested from four granite vineyards of 50 to 90 year old vines in Guarilihue Alto. It’s fermented 100% whole cluster with indigenous yeast in oak tanks, then aged for 1 year in concrete and large oak casks. It’s tangy and perfumed with a nose of stewed strawberries, herbs, and a touch of volcano. It’s juicy on the palate with citrus and berry flavors backed by bright acidity and chalky tannins.

 Monte Rio Carignane Mokelumne River Jessie's Grove 2022, Lodi, California

This is a project by rockstar somm Patrick Cappiello, who honed his winemaking chops under the tutelage of his business partner, Pax Mahle. This Carignane is from 8 acres of own-rooted vines originally planted by Joseph Spenker in 1900, now owned & farmed (organically) by Jessie’s Grove Winery. This is a medium-bodied red with subtle aromas of dried wild flowers, red berries, and tobacco with a pleasant grip of tannins on the finish. Just 200 cases produced.

Vallana Spanna Cuvee Bernardo 2020, Piedmont, Italy

Cuvee Bernardo is 100% Spanna, the local name for Nebbiolo, and is named after legendary winemaker Bernardo Vallana, the first to bring Spanna to the region in the 1950s. The grapes are hand-harvested then fermented in Bernardo’s original concrete vats, before aging for one year in used 500L wooden casks. This wine is lithe, elegant, & earthy with flavors of cranberries, raspberries, sour cherries, and lively acidity. Only 125 cases produced. Rock in (or out) the year with it.
