A Tuscan blend from the hills south of Montalcino, in Maremma, and specifically a tiny spot called Montecucco. Although the DOCG is rather recent, wine has been made in Montecucco since the 8th century. At over 1400 hectares (175 of which are under vine) ColleMassari is the largest estate (and working organic farm) of the Montecucco appellation; its vineyards are located on the hill after which the appellation is named, and its hillside planted Sangiovese vines are the oldest there, some in excess of 60 years. In 1998 Maria Iris Bertarelli and Claudio Tipa purchased the vineyard; they produced their first vintage in 2000.
