September 25th Newsletter

It’s Friday.

If you are new to this newsletter, our condolences.

Just some random thoughts from the precipice:

If hope is the thing with feathers, despair is the thing with what? Spare time and an internet connection?

Is Facebook a placeless rogue nation?

If we had to choose another elderly celebrity to lead us into fascism, who would it be? Perhaps Steve Martin. When he lies to us about things like crowd size, or…oh! a pandemic, we’d be all, That guy really IS the Jerk! When he tells us he’s going to steal the election it would be fun to joke that he’s just a Wild and Crazy Guy! Yeah…it would be a riot.

Why aren’t cops scared of white guys with guns? This reminds us of one of the most beautiful and underrated songs of all time. Thematically, nothing has changed.

Oh but we digress again. We’re about wine, aren’t we? We’ll get to that.

Here's a very short video to brighten your day. It's kind of about wine.

And here's our niece on the Tonight Show last night, because if we can't brag in our own damn newsletter, what's it good for?

Oh and here's some really interesting info on how masking up might actually reduce the severity of Covid-19 should you catch it. So there's something good!

Ok fine, now wine.

NEW ARRIVALS

Champagne Thomas Perseval La Pucelle Zero Dosage 2014 $104

We ordered 3 cases from this producer and got two bottles. Sometimes that happens! But it's a real treat for Pinot Meunier fans.

Vollenweider Riesling Felsenfest 2017 $25.99
100% estate Riesling grown on slate. Minimal intervention, all work done by hand. Elegant, structured, and flinty, and far more lush and intense than the 11% abv would suggest.

Vollenweider Riesling Wolfer Goldgrube Kabinett 2018 $31.99
100% estate Riesling grown on slate. Minimal intervention, all work done by hand. Fruity and soft on the palate, fresh and zippy on the finish. Sweet lemon, white flowers, and cream balanced with lemon-rind and smokey complexity.

Wasenhaus Gutedel Baden 2019 $34.99
Biodynamic. 100% Gutedel (aka: Chasselas) 50% fermented in used 600 l barrels, 50% destemmed & fermented on the skins for 12 days & aged in 600L wood casks. Very small production and availability.

Maquina y Tabla LDRS de Leonilla Bierzo Blanco 2017 20.99
Organic, hand-harvested Doña Blanca, Palomino Fino, & Godello from 20-80 yr old vines. Whole cluster pressed into French oak, wild yeast fermentation, 8 months under flor in neutral barrels. This is a light and briny natural white. Being under flor for 8 months gives it a tangy, salty minerality that would make it a perfect pairing for a plate of Spanish cheese and olives, garlicky shrimp, or with oysters and cherrystones.

Back in stock!

GD Vajra Claré J.C. Nebbiolo 2019 $23.99

Old-school Nebbiolo made in a style that harks back to Thomas Jefferson’s time: fermentation starts in tank & finishes in the bottle, making a lightly fizzy wine. It’s ruby-colored, brightly fruity, and spicy. Serve with a slight chill.

Cornelissen Susucaru Etna Rosato 2019 $35.99
The wine we thought we'd never get again, but alas, here it is. Malvasia, Moscadella, Cattaratto, Nerello Mascalese from 5 plots on the side of an active volcano. Foot-trod, natural yeast fermentation on the skins for 10 days. Unfined, SO2 between 5 & 30 mg/l, or none if the vintage allows.

Pullus Skin Contact Pinot Grigio 2018 $14.99
A simply delicious and affordable organic orange wine from Slovenia.
