Sparkle is a good word. It conjures thoughts of stars and glistening oceans, fireworks and celebrations. It's a word that doesn't quite roll off the tongue. It's somewhat awkward and ends rather abruptly, cocky in the happy sentiment it emits.

And happy it is; a chaser of good fortune, a string of shimmering lights, a shining portrait of what is good in this world: the sparkle in the eye, the sparkle of the spirit, the sparkle of youth.

Don't let the sparkle flicker out.

That's the intro to the newsletter we sent out on December 14th, 2012. We'd been in business for under 6 months, and that day was kicking off a series of grower Champagne tastings. We already had a fun and bubbly email ready to go...then the news broke of a massacre of children (children!!) in our neighboring state. It was unfathomable. Then.

But here we are again; after Buffalo, after Uvalde, (etc, etc...) and we ask: how do we keep the sparkle from flickering out when everyday brings another crack that lets in the dark where the light used to be? We don't know...replacing the politicians who are purchased by the gun lobby is a no-brainer, but...thoughts & prayers with that one. It's all about the power. We live with the horror. Which brings to mind this great song...music continues to be a salve.

Anyway, we have always struggled sending out newsletters and doing the whole social media thing with the backdrop of this cruel world always looming like a storm cloud over our shoulders. So we're pretty much just not going to do it this week. If you want to follow an account that's genius at it, go on over to Fearless Fish on Instagram. They win the prize.

Also: we have two air purifiers going full time at the shop (front and back), we keep our front door open as much as we can, we have fans blowing air out the door, and we have an exhaust fan running in back.

We don't know when we'll restart tastings.
