Angelo Paternò purchased his 60 hillside hectares in the southeastern Sicilian province of Siracusa after working as winemaker and technical director for Sicilian producers Cantine Settesoli and Duca di Salaparuta. Almost half of the land is dedicated to polyculture in order to nurture a biodiverse ecosystem. The other half is dedicated to numerous grape varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Grecanico, Muscat Blanc, Moscato Giallo, Insolia, Merlot, Tannat, Viognier, and Chardonnay. Angelo recently handed the winery over to his daughters, Marilina and Federica, though he still helps them in the cellar. They farm organically and their winemaking is influenced by local natural winemaking legend Frank Cornelissen. They ferment and age in large concrete tanks to preserve fruit and freshness.
