Lyrarakis was founded in 1966 by brothers Manolis and Sotiris Lyrarakis. The Lyrarakis family is credited with the revival of two ancient white varieties, Dafni and Plyto and a third, the indigenous Melissaki, was recently added to their credit. Assyrtiko, Vilana, White Muscat, and Sauvignon Blanc complete the range of white varieties; for the reds it’s Kotsifali, Mandilari, Black Muscat, as well as non-indigenous Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The family didn’t bottle wine under their own name until 1992.
Today, Lyrarakis is 15 hectares of organically farmed vineyards and community vegetable gardens.
