Corte Sant’Alda is thirty-nine hectares, 20 planted to vines, the rest are woods, and olive and cherry groves, overseen by Marinella Camerani. Marinella has been making wine here for over 35 years. Roughly 20 years ago she made the decision to farm organically, and then to go on to be biodynamically certified. She made this decision when organic winemaking, never mind biodynamic, was still often seen as a radical idea, even more so in Italy. But her commitment to the environment and the health of the planet guided her decision, and she was confident that her customers would understand what she was doing and would remain loyal to her. Marinella’s wines are clean, balanced, and expressive. Each wine comes from a specific vineyard, and the grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, which requires multiple passes through the vineyards. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeast in 40hl oak conical vats, and aging is in wood as well.
