Brothers Maxime and Romain Champet are the third generation to farm the once nearly-abandoned Côte Rôtie cru, La Viallière, one of the steepest, rockiest vineyards in the appellation. The Champets do almost everything by hand, and spend much of the year maintaining their terrace walls.
Winemaking is with long macerations, little or no destemming, and aging for 18 months in primarily neutral, large oak barrels. Wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined.
